Cowles Bridge Replacement

Project Description

The project replaces Cowles Bridge carrying Southwick Road (Routes 10/202) over the Little River. The 25% drawings include a conceptual phasing plan that will allow traffic to utilize the existing bridge while the new bridge is constructed. The project includes a realignment and widening of Southwick Road to provide turning lanes at City View Road and Mill Street. The City View Road traffic signal will be replaced and a new traffic signal is proposed at the intersection of Mill Street. Both the design and construction of the project are funded by MassDOT.

The project is scheduled for advertising in the Federal Fiscal Year 2020. The designer submitted the 25% design package in late April 2018 and the State held a 25% Public Hearing on December 13, 2018 to receive input from the City and residents. At the public hearing MassDOT estimated the design will be completed in 2019 with an estimated construction start in the summer of 2020.  We will provide updated drawings and schedules as the project advances.
