Working with many partners, A successful solar project is completed in the Whip City!
In September of 2016 ConEdison Development commenced operation on a 2 megawatt solar farm located at 219 Russellville Road in Westfield at a site that was once a construction yard. The project occupies 20 acres of a 35 acre site that was a sand pit and dumping location for construction waste. The site contained 60,000 cubic yards of concrete and road material in piles reaching 40 feet high. The developer, land owner and the city worked together to address the issue and turn the a site that was once an eyesore into a something productive. The Westfield Gas and Electric Light Department will purchase the power and distribute it to its customers. The facility produces enough power to light approximately 300 homes.
